Media Series

In this project I looked at South African politicians, particularly the youth leader of the ANC Julius Malema and the president Jacob Zuma. I took images from these political icons portrayed in the media including newspaper and television. I filmed off the television directly and edited these clips using Adobe After Effects and Photoshop. I merged different scenes and aspects relating to the ideas of public strikes, unhappiness with our political leaders but also idealising of leaders such as Julius Malema. The barrier of the television screen also became a theme in my work, acting as a barrier between the truth and what we see. I took this further by playing my edited footage back on a television and filming it again, thereby reprocessing the images the way that information is reprocessed and given to the public.
